DSC AND SHANGHAI ACADEMY OF SOCIAL SCIENCES DISCUSS THE WAYS OF FURTHER COOPERATION
Representatives of the Development Strategy Center took part in the third Shanghai International Forum ‘One Belt, One Road: Stability and Prosperity in Eurasia’ in Shanghai.
On October 25, 2018, Akmal Burkhanov, Director of the Development Strategy Center, met with the Secretary of the Party Committee of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences (SASS), Professor Yu Xinhue, as well as with representatives of the SASS Think Tank Study Center.
During the talks, the sides discussed the growing role of bilateral cooperation between the analytical institutions of Uzbekistan and China in recent years, and identified prospects for cooperation in the coming year, specifically, on the threshold of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization. As emphasized by the Chinese side, against the background of rapid reforms, the intensification of information and analytical institutions and think tanks in Uzbekistan is natural.
The Secretary of the SASS Party Committee Yu Xinhue pointed out to the importance of these meetings and discussions. He believes that, through close cooperation, as well as by establishing new contacts, holding regular high-level meetings, all sorts of events, exchange of information, such structures will make an immeasurable contribution to the development of not just the information-analytical industry of the states, but also will strengthen the bilateral mutually beneficial cooperation between Uzbekistan and China.
In this context, the Chinese side proposed expanding the format of cooperation between think tanks of the two countries, strengthening the cultural and humanitarian cooperation, and erasing cultural barriers.
Following the meeting, the parties expressed hope for the revitalization of the agreements set forth in the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Development Strategy Center and the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, which was signed in April 2018.
