THE WORLD BANK GROUP PRESIDENT JIM YONG KIM HIGHLY COMMENDED CHANGES IN UZBEKISTAN AND EXPRESSED READINESS FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE
As reported, on November 1-2, 2018, the Development Strategy Center Director Akmal Burkhanov took part in an international forum in Beijing on the openness, social protection of the population, and reduction of world poverty.
The forum highlighted the international collaboration on poverty reduction and sustainable development goals. The participants were presented the China’s concept to address this problem, as well as the world's best innovative practices, the role and contribution of global financial development institutions in poverty eradication.
While exchanging views, Akmal Burkhanov told about Uzbekistan’s practices of reforms and openness. Specifically, the DSC Director emphasized that the development of the social sector ranks among the key issues of the National Action Strategy on Five Priority Development Areas 2017-2021. He presented Uzbekistan’s policy in ensuring social protection of the population within the framework of the Action Strategy.
A congratulatory speech on behalf of the President of the People's Republic of China and the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres was read at the Forum. Jim Yong Kim, President of the World Bank Group, also made a welcoming speech.
Upon the Forum, the World Bank Group President Jim Young Kim and the DSC Director Akmal Burkhanov held an informal meeting. At the meeting, Mr. Jim Young Kim highly commended the ample changes taking place in Uzbekistan, and expressed his willingness to provide further assistance from the World Bank group. He also conveyed his warmest greetings and best wishes to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
