VINCENZO VALENTI: “THE NEED FOR HANDOUTS ABOUT TOURISM, HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL POTENTIAL OF UZBEKISTAN IS GROWING”


Executive Director of the Development Strategy Center Eldor Tulyakov met with the Secretary General of the Mediterranean Institute for Asia and Africa (ISMAA) Vincenzo Valenti, and the Vice President of the Association of Friendship and Cooperation Italy-Uzbekistan Professor Magda Pedace.

 Vincenzo Valenti highly commended socio-economic achievements of Uzbekistan over the past two years. According to him, “the stable growth of the economy contributed to the growth of the republic’s position in international ratings”. He emphasized that the Italian business community has been showing keen interest in participation in investment projects in Uzbekistan.

During the discussion, the parties highlighted the issues of regional trade, transport and transit, as well as the ways to channel investments. They proposed on strengthening mutual political and economic relations between the Central Asian states and the European Union, on the development of entrepreneurial activity and the introduction of innovative technologies.

In the spirit of an open and constructive dialogue, the parties considered other issues of mutual interest, expressing readiness to further develop and strengthen relations.

Vincenzo Valenti came up with an important initiative to organize regular forums of representatives of political expert and business circles of Uzbekistan and Italy in both countries for the multifaceted and mutually beneficial interaction. He proposed to hold the first meeting in Italy provisionally in November, and the return meeting - in the spring of 2020 in Uzbekistan.

During the meeting, the Italian side pointed out to the need for handouts about tourism, historical and cultural potential of Uzbekistan, as many who are interested in Central Asia and Uzbekistan in particular, do not have sufficient information.

In general, the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan arise great public interest in Italy, and might serve as a positive sign for strengthening the interaction between the two countries.

Following the meeting, the Mediterranean Institute for Asia and Africa (ISMAA) and the Development Strategy Center signed a Memorandum of Cooperation.
