MEMORANDUM ON COOPERATION SIGNED IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

On March 3, 2022 in Tashkent there is launched a high-level international conference on "Regional cooperation of Central Asian countries in the framework of the Joint Action Plan to Implement the UN Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy", organized by the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan.

This prestigious conference was organized in the framework of the initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly. The main purpose of the conference is to strengthen cooperation in the fight against terrorism in the framework of the Joint Action Plan (JAP) between the Central Asian states.

The hybrid event was attended by about 600 high-ranking officials from China, Russia, the United States, the European Union, Central and South Asia, the Middle East and other regions, leading experts from national and foreign think tanks, international and regional organizations, experts from civic society institutions.

At the opening ceremony of the conference, an appeal addressed to the participants on behalf of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev was read out. Also, at the opening ceremony of the event, UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres sent an online video address to the participants of the international conference.

UN Under-Secretary-General for Counter-Terrorism Vladimir Voronkov and Central Asian Foreign Ministers acknowledged at the Conference, that terrorism is one of the most serious threats to international peace and security, and that all forms of terrorism that undermine sustainable development and human rights must be addressed.

In the second part of the day, the participants were divided into sessions and made a detailed analysis of the topics on the agenda and exchanged views on the experience used by states in the fight against terrorism today.

A memorandum of cooperation was also signed between the Development Strategy Centre and the Centre for Global & Strategic Studies (CGSS) in Pakistan. The parties agreed to implement joint projects, exchange experiences and further strengthen cooperation within the framework of this memorandum of cooperation.

The conference will continue on March 4. At the end of the event, a new edition of the Tashkent Declaration and Joint Action Plan will be adopted.
