UZBEKISTAN'S INITIATIVES ARE INTERNATIONALLY RECOGNIZED

The intensification of Uzbekistan's foreign policy in recent years has been rightly acknowledged by the international community, experts and specialists.

The speeches of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the conferences of influential international organizations, in particular, at the meetings of the United Nations General Assembly, draw the attention of the world community to regional and global issues. Today, through the efforts of the Head of State, Uzbekistan is actively promoting its initiatives in the region and the world.

The fact that the initiatives put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly are fully supported by the world community is another bright evidence of the strengthening of Uzbekistan's role and prestige in the international arena.

In particular, on May 18, 2021, at the plenary meeting of the 75th session of the UN General Assembly, at the proposal of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a special resolution was unanimously adopted to declare the Aral Sea region a zone of ecological innovation and technology.

The initiative of the Uzbek leader has been widely supported by the world community. The fact that about 60 countries in different parts of the world co-authored the resolution clearly confirms this idea.

The Resolution adopted by the General Assembly:

- announces support for regional events and initiatives aimed at improving the environmental, social, economic and demographic situation in the Aral Sea region;

- further stimulates research and consulting activities in the interests of restoring and improving the nature of the Aral Sea region, conservation of natural resources and improving the quality of life of the population;

- emphasizes the importance of intensifying regional cooperation in the implementation of joint measures to overcome the consequences of the crisis in the Aral Sea and stabilize the environmental situation in the Aral Sea region;

- calls on all stakeholders to conduct joint interdisciplinary research, develop and introduce environmentally friendly technologies, promote inclusive and environmentally sustainable economic growth and the use of energy and water-saving technologies.

The document praised the establishment of the Aral Sea International Innovation Center under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the initiative of the Uzbek leadership and the establishment of a Multilateral Trust Fund for the Aral Sea region under the auspices of the United Nations and noted that these initiatives are supported by the UN

Thus, the Aral Sea region became the first region to be awarded such a high status by the General Assembly as the “Zone of Environmental Innovations and Technologies”. The adoption of a special resolution of the UN General Assembly is aimed at attracting investment in the development and implementation of high-tech innovations, environmentally friendly, energy and water-saving technologies, integrated application of the principles of "green economy", prevention of desertification and ecological migration, aimed at combining efforts to form the necessary conditions and incentives for the implementation of measures to develop ecotourism and other measures.

At the same time, the document serves to unify the practical actions and projects of specialized agencies, funds and programs in the UN system to support regional priorities, integration and sustainable development, and to ensure coordination between them.

This Resolution is also significant, because it focuses on the creation and implementation of high-tech innovations, environmentally friendly, energy and water-saving technologies, the widespread application of the principles of "green" economy, implementation of important measures to prevent soil degradation and environmental migration.

It should be noted that Uzbekistan's efforts to ensure environmental security are reflected in the measures aimed at mitigating the consequences of the Aral Sea tragedy. According to the State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection, landscaping work is currently underway on 450,000 hectares of the dried-up part of the Aral Sea.

Along with the declaration of the Aral Sea region by the UN as a zone of environmental innovation and technology a number of initiatives announced by the President of Uzbekistan at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly ‑‑ the proposals made by the President to establish strong economic ties between the Central Asian states, develop and expand transport corridors, and mobilize all forces for peace in Afghanistan have been welcomed by the world community, and intensive work is being done in these areas.

The initiatives put forward by Uzbekistan in the world are not only in the national but also in the common interest, and serve to unite all forces in the Aral Sea problem, to ensure regional and global environmental security.

It should be noted that Article 259 of the State Program "Year of Youth Support and Health" 2021 provides for the implementation of measures to promote the initiatives put forward in the speech of the President of Uzbekistan at the 75th session of the UN General Assembly.

Another international initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the adoption of a special resolution of the UN General Assembly on the declaration of the Aral Sea region as a zone of environmental innovation and technology, is a vital manifestation of the Action Strategy and the measures envisaged in its state programs.
