THE 3RD DAY OF VIRTUAL DIALOGUE HIGHLIGHTED THE FIFTH PRIORITY AREA OF THE ACTION STRATEGY

The campaign announced by the Development Strategy Center to widely cover the implementation of the State Program within the framework of the National Action Strategy on Five Priority Development Areas 2017-2021 has been in action. The next international online event was held on July 9, 2020 to highlight the progress made in foreign policy as part of the fifth area of the State program. The videoconference was organized jointly by the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan.

Executive Director of the Development Strategy Center Eldor Tulyakov made some introductory remarks. In his speech, he introduced the participants into the course of implementation of the State Program within the framework of priority areas of the Strategy of Action in the field of ensuring security, interethnic harmony and religious tolerance, and implementing a balanced, mutually beneficial and constructive foreign policy.

“The main goal of today's conference is to present the results of the implementation of paragraphs of the State Program in the foreign policy area, and to receive the proposals of the public on how to increase the efficiency of its implementation,” noted Eldor Tulyakov.

As noted at the event, this year’s State Program ‘The Year of Science, Education and Digital Economy’ provides for the implementation of a total of 284 paragraphs in five priority areas, of which 16 paragraphs are directly related to priority areas in the field of foreign policy.

Currently, the actions to ensure a balanced, mutually beneficial and constructive foreign policy of the Action Strategy are focused on improving the position of Uzbekistan in international economic ratings, further developing comprehensive relations with foreign countries, multilateral cooperation within the framework of international organizations, bringing relations with Central Asian states to a drastically new level in the spirit of mutual friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership, as well as on the development of various types of regional tourism.

The State Program also aims at the promotion of Uzbekistan as a candidate to the UN Human Rights Council for 2021-2023. To date, the republic has approved a National Strategy on Human Rights, which is expected to contribute to the effective implementation of state policy in this area, to the formation of a respectful attitude towards human rights and freedoms, and further strengthening of the country's authority in the international arena.

Representatives of ministries and departments made presentations in the round-table discussion. The OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan John McGregor, Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Public and International Relations at the University of Pittsburgh (USA) Jennifer Brick Murtazashvili also presented their assessments of the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan within the framework of the Action Strategy.

The participants discussed and exchanged views on the implementation of the State Program within the framework of priority areas in the field of foreign policy in the Year of Science, Education and Digital Economy, and proposed on their effective implementation.

Ultimately, the round table has helped convey to the general public and foreign audiences the progress of the ongoing reforms within the framework of the Action Strategy’s foreign policy area, which will contribute to improving the country's positive image in the international arena.
